There are a lot of reasons people have a hard time speaking on camera or in front of others. But one of the most common reasons is because they’re self-conscious. They don’t think they come across very well on camera. They get nervous, they speak too fast, or too slow, they have trouble controlling their breathing, they have trouble enunciating certain words… those are just a few of the issues people say stop them from putting themselves out there.
And I can relate. I’ve had to overcome one or two of those issues, myself. But I was determined to not let myself – my fears and insecurities – be an obstacle to putting myself out there and sharing what I knew. So I did some research on how to perform better on camera and I came across a whole host of interesting and helpful articles.

While a couple of those tips, like keeping yourself hydrated and sitting up straight, are relatively easy to implement, most of the others – like varying the speed of your delivery, controlling your breathing and enunciating more carefully – require practice and commitment. Luckily there’s a lot of information on the Internet on these very topics.
In my next three blog posts in this series, I’ll share with you the exercises, tips and tricks I found that can help you become the best speaker you can be, providing your willing to put int the time.
